Why don't we collaborate?

Since I work in series, all my images begin with a similar template that is developed in different directions with each individual piece. For a final collection of seven pieces, I may create 30 template based initial pieces. Each piece that is perfected at a given stage is not altered any further and is presented as a finished work for that price point. The others that require more labor are altered into another price point. This goes on for seven rounds. The remaining twenty-three or so template-based images that are not included in the collection of seven are reserved for artistic dialogue and collaboration with other artists and viewers.

The model for my collaborative work are the cooperative paintings of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol. The material for my collaborations comes from the remaining supply of template-based images that were not included in any collections. The process starts with me sending the artistic collaborator a template-based image (a $100 fee, based on the unit of labor). From there, they make their own additions and alterations and then document the finished piece. Should the other artist choose to continue collaborating on the image, the fee will be $100 per unit of labor on my end. Each participating artist will get equal credit for co-creating the artwork.

The model for my correspondence work is inspired by the New York Correspondence School mail art of Ray Johnson and Marcel Duchamp’s Boite-En-Valise. The material for my collaborations comes from the remaining supply of template-based images that were not included in any collections and my research and study sketches into the biographies of my subjects. All of these are placed into a “bio box” and sent monthly to subscribers. The process starts with the correspondence subscriber choosing one of the historical figures offered. The $100 per month subscription fee is based on the unit of labor to research, create and compile the artwork. Correspondence subscribers are given three opportunities to submit their recommendations for further research and the direction of the monthly bio box.
